How Did Vendoo Get Started?
Josh was a full-time reseller for 15 years and started with a brick-and-mortar sneaker store in the Maryland area. Around 2009 the economy wasn’t excellent, so he began selling items online to increase visibility, starting the journey into different marketplaces.
After a few years, he hit the ceiling where there were just not enough hours to do all the different things it takes to run a reselling business. You have to source inventory, be a photographer and take your photos, and then make listings.
You have to be an accountant, stay on top of all your numbers, do shipping, customer service, and all these different things. And, as Josh started to think about the reseller experience more, he and the other co-founders wanted to figure out how to build software to condense and solve so many of these pain points in one product.
That was our goal with Vendoo, Josh said. Josh and the three other co-founders started working on the idea in 2017 to build a solution for many of the tedious tasks resellers have to do.
What Are The Ten Platforms Vendoo Supports?
Vendoo has eBay, Etsy, Poshmark, Mercari, Grailed, Depop, Tradesy, Kidizen, Facebook Marketplace, and Shopify.
What Levels Of Offerings Are There?
Vendoo has a free version that gives you five listings. Then the lowest tier is $8.99 per month, allowing 25 new items to Vendoo inventory per month. An item only counts against your count 1x. Then there are plans for up to 4,000 items per month for $149.
Are There Templates?
Vendoo has templates to make it easier to create items that are similar. You can create up to 100 templates in your Vendoo inventory account, so it’s easy to import multiples of items. Vendoo could customize that for you to create more if you need more than that.
Do You Have A Mobile App?
The Vendoo original software is a web app that runs on a Google Chrome extension. They also have a mobile app that was launched earlier this year. The mobile app has the majority of features available in the Chrome extension. You can download the mobile app directly from your iOS or Android store.
When An Item Sells, Does Vendoo Show Which Platform It Was On?
When an item sells, you must come into Vendoo and click the mark as sold button. That mark as sold button will allow you to fill in a few details, such as sale price, shipping costs, and marketplace fees. Vendoo calculates the fees automatically for many marketplaces, so that might already be filled in. As soon as you fill in those details, it’ll automatically remove that listing from all of the other places that it’s currently listed.
The ability is going to be available on the app as well.
If I Import Listings In One Month, Can I Eliminate The Fee Later?
Many sellers pay the $4.99 fee the first month, do all the imports then, and drop the $4.99 import add-on fee once they’re done. They’ll have that feature for the first month to help them get all their existing inventory brought over. Once all their items are in their Vendoo inventory, you can remove that add-on from your plan and create items in Vendoo moving forward.
We also have some sellers who like to keep that ad on because they feel more comfortable, for example, listing on eBay. They feel like they’ve been selling on eBay for so long that they can navigate that form quickly. So they like to start their import and then cross-post. So you can do it either way.
Do Listings With Video Work In Vendoo?
Video is a feature Vendoo is building now because Poshmark also allows video in listings, and other marketplaces are starting to do that.
Is There A Way To Put Items In Vacation Mode?
There is not currently a way to put all items across platforms in vacation mode through Vendoo. It now has to be done on the platform (eBay, Poshmark, etc.)
Can Vendoo Be Used As Bookkeeping Software?
Many sellers start off using either pen and paper or some spreadsheet that they update manually, so the cool thing about Vendoo is that as you’re listing, you’re creating a spreadsheet simultaneously. There are some fields in our listing form like you have your cost of goods, and we know the date you put it in our system. We have a CSV download button that downloads your entire Vendoo inventory into a file that goes to your desktop, and you can drag that into Excel.
You can drag that into Google Sheets, and it creates the spreadsheet for you based on all the information that you’ve already created in your Vendoo listing.
Can You Print A Sold Page With Details Of The Sales?
You can. All the details from the CSV download I just mentioned would appear in a spreadsheet so you can filter by sold items. You can run that by month. You can run that for the year, which would be easy to give to your accountant or whoever’s helping you with your taxes because your cost of goods will be in there, and your marketplace fees will be in there. Everything will already be included in that printout, and that’s an easy way to stay on top of your numbers.
Do You Support Multi-Quantity Listings?
Multi-quantity is the newest feature that Vendoo is currently in the process of launching.
How Does It Work With Shopify?
If you’ve been thinking about launching a Shopify store, you’ll get 60 days of free access if you sign up through Vendoo, and the Vendoo team will help you set up your account, so you don’t have to go through that whole process yourself. And they’ll teach you a lot about the Shopify platform because, as a reseller on most of these marketplaces, you can upload your items, but Shopify is your site, and you’re responsible for driving traffic there. It can be difficult, which is why Vendoo offers the education piece for the first 60 days.
How Do You Continue To Develop Your Product?
Vendoo is built on feedback from the reseller community. So the first two years almost of creating this idea, Vendoo went around to every reseller convention and asked questions to sellers to understand their daily pain points and where they spend the most unnecessary time. Understanding those problems, Vendoo could find ways to creatively incorporate solutions into the software.
What Resources Are Available To Vendoo Users?
Vendoo provides a ton of educational content for sellers. It’s free information that is given out weekly, both high-level and entry-level, from how to create a strong listing on Depop to how to SEO optimize your titles for better results. The blog is on their website. Vendoo also has a YouTube channel with additional content, and there is a Facebook group called Vendoo: A Seller’s Best Friend, where product updates are provided. Additionally, Vendoo is active on Instagram.
Vendoo also has tutorial calls every week on Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. Eastern and one on Thursday mornings at 11:00 a.m. Eastern.
