How to Find FREE Items To Resell RIGHT NOW! (Legally)

How To Get Free Stuff To Resell

Thank you so much for spending your time with us! We would be so grateful if you could take a minute and leave us a review.

If you’re new to reselling or are looking for ways to make more money with less investment, start looking for free items to resell. You can always find free things, and flipping free stuff can be an easy way to get started in this business.

You don’t need a lot of money upfront to buy inventory to resell.

Keep Your Eyes Open

Melissa and I go jogging every morning. Recently while jogging, we came across two bar stools. They were by the side of the road out for trash, and they were real wood with claw feet and the kind of stool with the back on them.

We were two and a half miles from town and three miles from the house, and we were trying to figure out what to do. I had a friend who had an ice cream shop in the same town, and I asked if I pulled them out of the trash and if I could set them at his shop and then come back and get them later. They’ll probably sell for $50-$75 each. They could be worth more if I end up redoing the seats. But if I just put them on Facebook Marketplace as is, I could make probably $150, and I got them for free.

We have come across so much free stuff just by walking or jogging and paying attention to our surroundings.

Look At Apartment Complexes

The end of the month is usually when people in apartment complexes or condos move out, so sometimes there is furniture or other free items left behind at the dumpsters because they don’t know what to do with it or don’t want to haul it with them. A great time to look is at the end of a college’s academic year because all the students move out at the same time, and the thrift stores get loaded up and can’t take anymore.

That can be amazing for anyone in furniture flipping. You can find dressers, tables, chairs, and amazing cool things set out as trash by the dumpster.

Talk About Your Reselling Business

Tell your friends and family what you do. We used to not do this as much in the beginning, but this is our job. We like sharing what we do and talking about flips. And the more you talk about it, the more likely people are to think of you when they have things they’re getting rid of.  People will give me free stuff when they’re cleaning out their garage, and I can turn that around and sell it.

You could also sell items for friends and family and take a commission out of the profit. Sometimes it’s not worth it, but it can be a great way to start as you’re growing your reselling business.

Search ‘Free’ On The Apps

In Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, and Craigslist, you can search for free items by typing “free” in the search bar. Sometimes people will take a picture of an item at the curb and pop it on the app to get rid of it.

Create Wanted Ads

You can also create an ad that says you are looking for free items and will haul things, and you may get people contacting you. If you’re looking for a specific item, you can say you’re looking for furniture or old electronics. You could also offer to help haul off garage sales’ leftover items at the end of the day, and then you can take whatever you want and then donate the rest.

Check Your House

You don’t know everything you have in the garage, under your bed, or in the back of a closet. Look through your house for items you don’t use, and post those for sale. Check your attic. What do you have in your garage or even your storage unit that you can go and get and sell?

You can do those things right now without paying a penny to get the inventory and then turn them around to make some quick money.

Make a couple of hundred dollars from free items and reinvest it in your business as you learn what things to source.

Robert Stephenson

I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here my whole life. I first got into buying and selling items when I was 16 years old, and have been hooked ever since. It has mostly been a hobby that makes some extra cash, but sometimes it serves as my main income as well. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I find too many fun toys for my family (or myself), and just love the whole process.
