Today we’re throwing it back to an interview that one of our coaches, Stacy Gallego, did with Nick Loper from The Side Hustle Show. In the interview, Stacy talks about how she started her flipping business and grew it to make thousands of dollars a month by buying low and selling high.
Stacy was a travel nurse and thanks to her flipping job she was able to scale back on it, and focus on more family time and travel.
Getting Into Flipping
Stacy found Flea Market Flipper online and started listening to our videos and learning more about our business model. It made sense to her to work smarter, not harder. She figured if she could make $1,000 a month that would be great. She started making that easily, and then it moved up to $4,000 a month and then a few dollars short of $10,000.
Finding Profitable Inventory
Stacy says never stick to one way of sourcing. She looks at multiple locations to increase her chances of finding something valuable. She looks at yard sales, thrift stores, OfferUp, and Facebook Marketplace. She’s searching for undervalued items that she can bring to eBay to make more profit. Stacy has also made several contacts locally that give her dibs on items they find.
There can be a lot of reasons why people want to get rid of items for free or cheap, such as if they’re moving, renovating, or just don’t want to deal with the hassle of selling them.
Freight Shipping
Stacy saw her profits skyrocket when she started freight shipping. She had to learn how to build pallets, measure items, and package them properly. She also takes advantage of free pallets when she can find them. Then she takes it to the freight terminal and it gets shipped out. The first one was the most intimidating, but now she’s comfortable with large freight shipments. She says everything is figure-outable.
Using eBay Auctions Or Buy It Now
Stacy doesn’t deal with auctions on eBay unless it’s for a specialty item. Buy it now is usually her preferred option. She does the research on the items to look at comparable items so she can price it fairly but still make a profit. eBay has millions of users so she knows her item is more likely to sell on eBay versus a local market that may have 60,000 people that could potentially see it.
Items To Sell
Stacy likes to sell Sleep Number beds because she can find used ones frequently for fairly cheap. She’s also had success selling the parts. She sold a money counter for $600 and she paid $75 for it. She will look for anything that is undervalued that could have a large profit.
Stacy didn’t have a truck when she first started, but as she started doing more freight shipping she bought a $300 trailer that her husband assembled.
There is profit everywhere, you just have to look.
