Last Month's Numbers Are In, 7 Sales For Over $12K

Thank you so much for spending your time with us! We would be so grateful if you could take a minute and leave us a review.

Let’s talk about December’s numbers with just seven items sold and over $12,000 in income!

Our total sales was $12,425 with seven items. We love it when we can make this kind of money in this small number of sales. One sale came through on Facebook Marketplace and the rest came through on eBay.

Item #1 – Mosquito Magnet

Only one item sold for under $1,000 and that was our son’s item. Over the summer when we were on the road trip, we gave our kids $100 each to pick up items to flip. This was one item that Brody picked out. We negotiated the seller down to $15 and he sold it for $175 on eBay. He was super excited and cleaned it up and helped me ship it out.

Sold: $175
COGS (cost of goods sold): $15
eBay Fees: $24
Shipping: $39
Profit: $97

Item #2 – Commercial Convection Oven

We picked this up on a road trip a few years ago and it was sitting in my shop. I had purchased it in bulk with other items we’ve since sold and the totals of those six items were $250, so it’s estimated the item cost $42 but we’ve already made the money back. I had it priced competitively, and I knew I didn’t really have to drop the price, but we wanted to get it moving. This one sold three or four times but the buyers always messaged to cancel before I shipped it. That’s not something that normally happens. The guy who finally bought this actually did the same thing. He emailed wanting to cancel it then changed his mind and stuck with it. He was happy with it when he got it.

Sold: $2,000
COGS: $0
eBay Fees: $267
Shipping: $347
Profit: $1,386

Item #3 Total Gym

This wasn’t brand name Total Gym, but was a commercial pilates machine. I found this on the road trip in Michigan. We went to visit Dutch Village with the kids and I looked up items in the area. This was within 10 minutes of our destination. He had already deeply discounted it so I didn’t even try to negotiate because the price was ridiculous.

Sold: $2,500
COGS: $40
eBay Fees: $313
Shipping: $295
Profit: $1,852

Item #4 – JennAir Cooktop

We picked this up in Boise while we were on a Mastermind trip. We had flown there so I asked my friend if we could leave it with him until it shipped. I cleaned it up, photographed it, listed it, and palleted it up before we left. When it sold, all he had to do was handle shipping.

Sold: $2,250 + $150 (extra for shipping)
COGS: $150
eBay Fees: $306
Shipping: $378
Profit: $1,566

Item #5 – The Pole Saws

I bought eight of these at one time in Orlando. I still have three left. It was either from Craigslist or OfferUp. I got them from a lady who had them in her garage; she just wanted them gone. I bought them and then they sat in my shop unlisted. As soon as I put them up, they sold within a couple of weeks. The buyer asked me about a better deal and I said I could offer a deal if he bought more than one so I ended up selling three. Think about that as you’re selling items you have multiples of because you may be able to upsell a buyer.

Sale: $2,500
COGS: $75
eBay Fees: $352
Shipping: $119
Profit: $1,954

Item #6 – Ice Merchandisers

I’ve had these ice merchandisers for two or three years and I was going to fix them up and sell them, but they sat for so long I lost interest. They’re what businesses store ice inside of at gas stations. I had four and cleaned them up and listed them and they sold locally.

Sold: $1,100
COGS: $400
eBay Fees: $0 because they sold on Marketplace
Shipping: $0 because they sold on Marketplace
Profit: $700

Item #7 Beer Can Seamer

I had two of these and I sold one. It’s a machine that seals the top metal around the can once the beer is poured into it. It was brand spanking new. This one went overseas to another country, which was cool. I tried to upsell the buyer because I had two, but he only wanted one. I had it marked at $2,000 but he asked about a discount and I was willing to negotiate. I want to keep merchandise moving so I can get more.

Sold: $1,750
COGS: $80
eBay Fees: $216
Shipping:$114
Profit: $1,340

December Totals

Sales: $12,425
COGS: $802
eBay Fees: $1,478
Shipping: $1,292
Total Profit: $8,895

We made almost $9,000 in profit on just those seven items. When you’re buying these items for the right price you can afford to spend a little more money on eBay fees to get them to the right people as quickly as possible. Don’t get hung up on eBay fees. Right now until another platform comes out, eBay is by far the best place to be selling the items that we sell.

Robert Stephenson

I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here my whole life. I first got into buying and selling items when I was 16 years old, and have been hooked ever since. It has mostly been a hobby that makes some extra cash, but sometimes it serves as my main income as well. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I find too many fun toys for my family (or myself), and just love the whole process.
