Do More Of What Makes You Happy! How To Have A Reselling Side Hustle You Enjoy

happiness

When we think of our job or side hustle – the word happiness doesn’t typically jump out at us. I wouldn’t think of work as something that makes anyone happy.

But it can!

Reselling used items really does bring me joy. Of course it’s not all butterflies and rainbows, but doing something with passion makes all the difference in your mood each day.

So how exactly can it help you be happy?

Let me count the ways.

I have been selling used items since I was a teenager. It started as a way to earn money to buy things that teenagers want.

Feeling happy is priceless

It grew with me as I got older. Quickly I found that I could earn good money by selling used items.

I didn’ know all the things I know now, but I just learned as I went.

I made mistakes, lots of mistakes along the way. The mistakes were actually a good thing, and I just kept going.

It was challenging, fun, and I was competitive with myself to see what I could do.I quickly found that flipping used items made me happy.

Then and Now

I have changed throughout the years, just like we all do. When I was a teenager, I was carefree, I feared nothing, and I was a risk taker.

I still have some of those traits, ask Melissa, lol. But, I did learn from my mistakes, I now have my family to think of, and I have become a much stronger negotiator.

The profit really does lie in the price you pay for an item. The lower you get the price, the more profit you make.

I also have a much better eye for things that have value these days. I used to guess a lot more back in the day.

And, I am definitely much better at research now than I ever was.

Making sure not to over pay for an item is very important, as is finding items that are worth good money. Doing research is crucial in deciding whether to buy an item or not.

Not Being Afraid to Learn

Along my flipping journey, I learned quickly that learning from others is a helpful tool.

Watching what other people have success with, can lead you to your own success.

Remember as kids, we would get so offended when another kid would copy our artwork or a trick we would do on our bike?

I see it with my own kids, and I try to tell them that when someone copies you, it is a compliment.

We don’t really learn that until we are adults. Adults copy each other all the time. From getting a similar car/truck as a friend, or watching how a family member fixes something at their house.

I stick to what I said earlier, copying people is the biggest form of flattery. Other people have skills we don’t have and have ideas we haven’t seen before.

The same goes for sharing our own ideas and skills with other people.

Learning and sharing what we have learned makes us feel good, and in turn makes us happy.

Business Relationships

All the years I have been flipping part time and full time, I have met many wonderful people along the way.

When I sell items locally, I have met some great people that are super excited to get the item I am selling them.

When I purchase items to resell, I meet wonderful people that have wonderful stories.

Maybe they are downsizing because their last child is off to college. Maybe they are retiring and making a move. Or, maybe they have a new baby coming and they have to make room for a nursery.

Whatever the reason, I have met so many awesome people along the way.

When I went full-time with flipping over 6 years ago, I quickly found that making contacts in the business was a huge key to earning a full time income.

Since then, I have made several contacts that I have strong relationships with. These people sell items to earn income for their families, but they don’t want the hassle of shipping and listing.

They know what I do, I know what they do, and we have learned how to benefit each other.

They call me up and let me know what they have, I buy their items and they make money. I sell those items and make money for my family. It’s a huge win-win situation.

All of these business relationships, whether they are 10 minutes or long-term have been a benefit, and that makes me happy.

Robert Stephenson

I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here my whole life. I first got into buying and selling items when I was 16 years old, and have been hooked ever since. It has mostly been a hobby that makes some extra cash, but sometimes it serves as my main income as well. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I find too many fun toys for my family (or myself), and just love the whole process.
