How To Travel For FREE Using Your Flipping Business

Thank you so much for spending your time with us! We would be so grateful if you could take a minute and leave us a review.

Did you know you can travel for free using your flipping business?

This topic is near and dear to us because we love to travel and you can actually travel for free when you really learn how to utilize this business.

Traveling Transatlantic

If you have been following us for any length of time, you know how important vacation is to us. Back in the day, Melissa and I went on a 14-day transatlantic cruise and we had to make the money before we went on that vacation. We found a last-minute deal for $500/each for the cruise. It went from Florida to Europe (this was in 2010), and we were stopping in Spain, Italy, France, and Germany. We got to see four other countries on this trip. It was amazing, but we had to flip a few items to be able to go. I went to thrift stores and yard sales and sold some items for $200-$300 to be able to afford the trip. That’s a lot less than we typically get on flips now because we’ve learned so much since then.

Paying For Travel By Flipping

Then about eight years ago we bought a 40-foot fifth wheel camper and we were going to travel the country with our kids. It didn’t quite work out, but we used it to go to the Keys for a month. While we were down there we found some really cool Victorian end tables that we bought for $50 and sold for $400 when we got back to Orlando. That’s what really opened up our eyes to flipping and traveling.

In 2020, my brother-in-law passed away and we bought a 15-passenger van to go on a trip with his wife and kids and Melissa’s other sister. There were 11 of us total and we had a trailer that we towed to store everyone’s stuff. About halfway through the trip I started looking at the apps for the places we were going the next day and picked up a few things. At first we weren’t doing it to pay for the trip, but in future years we planned better and used flipping to fund our trips.

The next year we were more intentional with it and brought back between $20,000 to $40,000 of stuff that we’ve been able to resell. And the types of items we bring back are high value items since we can typically only fit 14-18 items in our 14-foot enclosed trailer.

Flipping To Go To Hawaii

Last year we drove out to California, and we took a 17-day cruise to the Hawaiian Islands. The best part about it was that we were able to pay for that trip with one flip before we went. Melissa challenged me to pay for it prior to leaving and we sold one item that got our whole family tickets for this cruise. Then we drove back and sourced items along the way in our trailer.

We’ve already made some profit on last year’s items. We found two cooktops and sold them for $2,200 and $2,500. And if you’re working while traveling, you might be able to write some things off on your taxes. Contact your accountant or local CPA to get the tax advice because we are not tax experts.

This just goes to show you that you can use your flipping business to pay for your travel so you can take trips for FREE!

Robert Stephenson

I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here my whole life. I first got into buying and selling items when I was 16 years old, and have been hooked ever since. It has mostly been a hobby that makes some extra cash, but sometimes it serves as my main income as well. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I find too many fun toys for my family (or myself), and just love the whole process.
