Best Places To Find Items To Flip

Thank you so much for spending your time with us! We would be so grateful if you could take a minute and leave us a review.

Let’s talk about where to find great items to flip. Resellers need to know where to go to consistently source products to sell on eBay, and we will dive into the benefits of different sourcing locations.

Auctions

Years ago, when I started in this business, we didn’t have the apps. I started out with a local auction. The Salvation Army in Orlando, Florida, had an auction behind the actual retail store, and you could buy items from the auction. They would auction big tubs of stuff and exercise equipment, lawnmowers, and electronics. That’s where I bought my first Nordic Track for $5, which I flipped for $350.

Auctions are still a great way to find items. There are in-person auctions and online auctions. You have to learn the different rules. Some allow you to see the items first and come back and bid, while others don’t. You might look at an item and go back an hour later to participate in the item auction with a live auctioneer.

To find auctions in your area, head to Google and search auctions near me. If you win an auction, you pay for it and pick it up.

Before going into an auction, the biggest thing to know is your stopping number. You have to be able to say, “I’m going to stop here,” because it’s not worth it if you go past your stopping number. You’ll lose all the profit.

Flea Markets

We love flea markets. We frequently travel around the country and visit flea markets. Our local flea market has amazing vendors that buy stuff from storage auctions, and then they bring it to the flea market and sell it piece by piece. It’s a great place to find unique, used items.

Yard Sales

This is how I started my reselling career before I started my reselling career. I grew up going to yard sales with my mom. I loved getting the classified section, highlighting the listings that looked interesting or had a good description, and then getting up early Saturday morning before it was light out. That’s how we had a lot of cool stuff.

Yard sales are great because you can find some excellent deals. People usually have a yard sale because they have extra stuff they want to get rid of. At the end of the day, yard sale deals get even better, and sometimes you can pick up items for free.

When looking for a good yard sale, always look for estate or multi-family sales so you can look at many items at once.

Find Items On Apps

This is one of my favorites. We didn’t have all these apps back in the day, and they have changed the sourcing game. In our area, the best three we deal with are Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, and Craigslist. Your area might have more popular ones. Check the apps regularly and look for people in your community that are getting rid of quality items for a reasonable price.

Create Relationships

Create contacts with flea market vendors. I’ve gone to the flea market for years and have made connections with the vendors there to where they call me when they get an item they think I might be interested in, so I get first dibs. I don’t have to go and compete with a ton of people at the flea market. They send it to me on demand.

Building relationships is huge. You can also build relationships with friends and family. Tell people what you’re doing. Let them know you’ll take any extra items they plan to donate. We just sold an RV stove for $440 and got it for free from a friend.

Look Through Your House

The most overlooked place for sourcing is the stuff you have in your house. If you’re just starting, you do not have to jump out there and go and find items to sell. You can just go and start in your house. Look under the beds, in the closet, in the garage, and find items you don’t want anymore and get them listed.

That’s the best place to start because you’re doing some of your items, so if you make some mistakes, it’s not the end of the world. You’re not losing a ton of money. You already own the item, and you’re planning on selling it.

If you’re looking for help sourcing items in your area, check out our sourcing membership. We send you leads for $500 to $2,000 worth of items that we find in your area per month. We love sourcing and helping others find items they can resell to grow their flipping business.

Robert Stephenson

I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here my whole life. I first got into buying and selling items when I was 16 years old, and have been hooked ever since. It has mostly been a hobby that makes some extra cash, but sometimes it serves as my main income as well. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I find too many fun toys for my family (or myself), and just love the whole process.
