Last month was a pretty flipping cool month.
We had our biggest flip of the year!
Not only that, we were finishing up our 5-week trek across the U.S. Checking out God’s creation and seeing some epic National Parks all while finding treasure along the way.
Of course we brought our trailer with us and ended up filling it with 14 items that we picked for a total of $870 that should bring in $16,150.
And even sold one while we were on the road!
Picked this wallpaper steamer for $35 and sold it for $750 the same day I listed it!
When we were in Colorado I found a listing for an item and when I went to look at it it turned out to be a hardware store going out of business.
I grabbed the wallpaper steamer and a paint stirrer for a total of $50. I probably could have grabbed more, but Melissa was ready to visit to Rocky Mountain National Park that day so I didn’t have a lot of time.
We had planned to finish up our trip doing the 127 yard sale. But we had already been on the road for over a month and had a pretty full trailer.
So we made the decision to just make the trek home from Michigan and have a few down days before the kids started school. (Getting back to our time zone was tough and the kids had to be at school early!)
So back to our August sales.
We had a total of 3 sales for $24,000!
Two of these we were on the road for and the last one came in while we were home. (We took a little time to recover from the trip and to get everyone ready for school).
Biggest sale of the year!
The first sale was our biggest sale of the year!
It was our (second) bus wash!
We picked this on our summer road trip last year for $500 and sold it on ebay for $14,500.
We found it last year on Facebook Marketplace and ended up driving back to North Carolina to get it. (I couldn’t pass up that profit!)
So we added in travel expense, but divided it by 3 items. When we drove to North Carolina I looked for other items to pick up to make it more worth my time. We picked up a stove for $200 that we sold for $2,200 and an arcade game that we picked for $175 and sold for $550.
The bus wash was definitely a bear of a pallet to make. I thought it would take me a day…. But it ended up taking 3 days.
But after all was said and done I would do it again.
And the buyer actually wants more bus washes so I’m hunting them down at the moment to see if I can find one!
OfferUp Freebie
The second sale was a commercial Ice cream machine.
I negotiated with the guy while we were away and he was ready to buy but looking for others.
So as soon as we got back I told him he could come look at it and he purchased it for $8,500. (I had it listed for $10,000.)
I actually picked this machine up for free from an OfferUp ad. The lady wanted it gone and out of her shop and anyone with a truck or trailer could come get it.
I browse our OfferUp and Marketplace ads often so I was the first to respond to her. I picked it up and sat on it for about a year.
But it was worth taking up space in my storage for an $8,500 profit (no fees associated with this one because it sold locally and he picked it up.)
Trash Find
The last sale was a fuel injector diesel rail. I picked this from the dumpster that my contact has (businesses get rid of perfectly good stuff all.the.time!)
Side note – it’s definitely worth your time to make contacts with thrift store managers, flea market vendors, OfferUp/Marketplace sellers. You never know who you will meet that has a contact themselves. They make money on you and you make money with their items.
So I got that one for free too. And it sold for $1,000 on ebay.
I sat on that one for a little bit, but it didn’t take up much space and when the right person came along, I was here for them.

Now this is not a normal month. But it totally can happen if you are always looking for those items that people are ready to get rid of!
This month puts us on track to hit our $100K goal this year! (and with part time hours)
We spend a lot of our time helping others make money reselling so our own business sometimes gets the back burner.
But I do love the thrill of the hunt and of course the sale.
September has already proved to be productive and we aren’t stopping anytime soon!
