Making sales on eBay while you’re on vacation is the best feeling. When you hear that cha-ching sound, you know you’re going to come back to some money. On our recent Mastermind business trip/vacation to Cancun, Mexico, we made $11,250 in sales on eBay.
It’s awesome when this happens. One sale was right before we left, and one was while we were in a session. The trip was a great time. We brought Melissa’s mom and stepdad with us to watch the kids while we were in our sessions and then in the afternoons we enjoyed activities as a family. This is one of the things that flipping allows us to do.
Item #1 – TurboChef
This is the third TurboChef we’ve sold. We bought two on our road trip last summer and sold them very quickly. A friend sent me this listing and it was priced at $300 originally, but we negotiated to $150. This was the last TurboChef we had, and I came down on price so it would move. I ended up taking an offer on this one after some negotiations.
Because this came in right as we were leaving, I knew I wouldn’t be able to ship it in time to meet my five-day freight handling time. I messaged the buyer and said I was heading out of town but could get it shipped right when I got back, but if that didn’t work to let me know and I could issue a refund. I ended up not hearing back from the buyer, and got it shipped out the day we got back.
Sale: $6,250
COGS: $150
eBay Fees: $405
eBay Ad Fees: $265
Shipping: $125
Total Profit: $5,305
Item # 2 – The Stretcher
We’ve talked about the stretchers before. This was the big sale that came through while we were actually on vacation. It was for our higher priced stretcher and shipping.
This was a little more expensive than our other stretchers because I listed them with extras like IVs. The other ones we sold for $3,200 without the extras. If you have the opportunity to buy multiples of an item, it can be a great investment. You photograph and list once but allow for multiples to be purchased. It’s a little more cost up front, but can be some consistent income if they sell well.
If you are listing multiples of an item and a specific one has damage, make sure the buyer knows if they’re getting the one with damage and that you include photos and a description of the damage.
Sale: $5,000
COGS: $183
eBay Fees: $377
eBay Ad Fee: $108
Shipping: $140
Total Profit: $4,192
Our total profit for both these items was $9,497, which we were able to make while we were taking time away from our business. One of our coaches, Stacy Gallego, says the listing you do now is your payday for next month and that could not be more true. It’s great to come back from a vacation to some high-dollar sales!
