When Is The Right Time To Invest In Yourself?

Thank you so much for spending your time with us! We would be so grateful if you could take a minute and leave us a review.

Making an investment into taking a course or learning something new can be difficult, but today we’re going to talk about why investing in yourself is worth it and when is the right time to do it.

The other day we received a comment from someone who stated they don’t have a lot of money to invest in a course to learn. We get it. Some people may be struggling with money and really don’t have any to invest, while others just aren’t sure if it’s worth it.

We produce a lot of free content about flipping, and we also have some paid courses like our sourcing workshop that’s kicking off next week. And so we wanted to kind of talk about that, is it worth it to invest in yourself and what if you don’t have money to do that?

How To Invest In Yourself When You Don’t Have Money

We recognize that there are some people that really do not have a penny to invest into something else and they’re barely staying afloat with what they have.

The cool thing with flipping is that you don’t have to have a penny to invest into reselling. You can go out today, wherever you’re at, and go through your neighborhood and there will probably be free items sitting out waiting for the trash. We have done this so many times. There are free items that people are just throwing away, and you can probably make $10-$50 on free items you find. Pick them up, take them back to your house, clean them up, take a picture, and get them listed on Facebook Marketplace. That’s one free way to go out and find money.

Then you can take that money and invest it into yourself and grow your knowledge for your business.

There is also a lot of free information online for whatever area you’re interested in. If you want to invest in your growth and development, but don’t have extra money, look at YouTube. Look at blog posts. Listen to a podcast.

Every piece of information is out there that you need. You might have to sift through a little bit to get the information you want, but you can go do this and start growing!

Invest In Yourself To Save Time

If you do have the money to invest in learning or growing, it’s valuable for a couple of reasons. The first is that a lot of times you will learn shortcuts or time-savers from the experts.

I’ve been in the flipping business for over 25 years, and I’ve made a lot of mistakes. Because of that, I’ve learned a lot, and I have a lot of information to share with people about what works and what doesn’t. One of our flipping courses would benefit the person who does not want to make those same mistakes, who wants to learn from somebody who’s done it.

When you’re actually enrolling in one of our courses or our sourcing workshop, you’re going to get the results a lot quicker than if you have to go sift through tens of hundreds of videos on YouTube to find the information you’re looking for.

When you’re paying for a course or workshop you’re learning from someone who has spent hundreds of hours on a topic and is sharing their expertise with you. They’ve already gone through learning what works and what doesn’t, and they’re sharing that information with you so you can skip that part and get ahead.

Don’t invest in a course where the trainer isn’t practicing what they’re preaching. You want to find courses where the coach is doing what it is that they’re selling you and you know you can get good training and results.

A Financial Investment Adds Accountability

Melissa and I are currently in a coaching program right now where we are paying for coaching for ourselves. We get it, it is a sacrifice. It’s hard to spend money on these things, and we’d much rather spend our money on vacations and experiences with the kids, but we do see the value in the expense because we are trying to better ourselves and learn things that will make our lives and our business better.

A huge piece of investing in yourself financially too is that it helps you show up to do the work. When you invest in yourself, that exchange of money makes you show up.

When Melissa was a personal trainer she gave friends free sessions and they didn’t always show up, so they never got results. Because it was free there wasn’t as much at stake to make them show up for themselves.

For us, because we’ve invested in coaching we’re committed to doing the work. We’re going to show up and we are going to learn something from every session.

Shift Your Mindset To Learning

We’ve purchased a lot of coaching and courses over the years, and not every one was exactly what we expected, but we were always able to find a takeaway.

A lot of the coaching programs will help you shift your mindset too. You have to have the mindset to learn and be willing to put in the work. Once you’re there, you can experience so much growth from using the shortcut of somebody else’s course. They’re giving you a blueprint of their path to success and you can get results if you show up.

For us, we really want to do more with YouTube. YouTube takes a little more time for us to edit video, and we go back and forth where one month we’re really consistent and the next month we’re not. So we know we really need to invest in a program for YouTube to keep us on track with YouTube.

Once we’re done with a couple of projects that’s another investment we’re going to make for ourselves, so if you know of a great YouTube course we should go through, let us know in the comments. We want the shortcut, we want to learn from somebody who has gotten results.

We want to know about your roadblocks or what struggles you’re having when it comes to mindset. Share in the comments below or reach out on Instagram!

I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here my whole life. I first got into buying and selling items when I was 16 years old, and have been hooked ever since. It has mostly been a hobby that makes some extra cash, but sometimes it serves as my main income as well. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I find too many fun toys for my family (or myself), and just love the whole process.
