Thank you so much for spending your time with us! We would be so grateful if you could take a minute and leave us a review.
There are so many ways to get into reselling! You don’t have to start with large items, you can sell items from inside your own closet. On the show, today is Crystal from Crystals Flips. Crystal focuses her entire business on reselling fashionable clothing such as jeans, dresses, and other trending items.
Over the four years, she’s been a reseller, Crystal has grown her Poshmark closet following to more than 350,000 followers, and continues to grow her business by listing daily. Today we’re going to learn more about reselling clothes.
How Did You Get Into Reselling?
Crystal credits her stepdaughter for getting her into the reselling business. Her stepdaughter was clearing out her closet by selling items on Poshmark and Mercari, and she suggested Crystal sell her items in the bins in the storage room.
One day Crystal ripped off the bandaid and started listing, and she made a three-item bundle sale the second day of being on Poshmark. From there she listed everything in her four boxes and then started going to garage sales looking for more items. These days she sources more at thrift stores.
What Is Your Focus For Reselling?
Crystal’s reselling niche is clothes. Her husband sells records and CDs, but she focuses on clothes. Occasionally the two will go to thrift stores together. Crystal says her husband is a good dresser and has a good eye for men’s fashion brands, so he helps find items for her to resell on Poshmark or Mercari.
Crystal started by selling American Eagle items because that’s what she had to sell, and what she enjoyed wearing. Her sister-in-law gave her eight bags of Anthropology clothing, and from there Crystal started learning about other brands. She branched out and started looking at Poshmark to get ideas on what brands to look for. On Poshmark you can look at the seller’s sold items to get an idea of what is selling well and for how much. It’s also important to keep up on what’s trending, such as all of the ‘90s and early ‘00s items that are back in style now.
What Is Your Average Number Of Sales?
Crystal sells an average of four to seven items per day and makes a monthly average of about $3,000 profit. And that’s just working part-time. Crystal spends about two hours a day on her reselling business. She goes thrifting about once a week for an hour to an hour and a half, and sometimes longer if she’s visiting other places.
The thing that keeps sales consistent is listing consistently. When Poshmark’s algorithm changed, Crystal increased her listings to 10 items a day instead of the previous three to five, and then the sales started increasing. She has around 2,600 items listed in her closet right now.
Crystal’s closet is a mix of women’s clothes with a focus on jeans because those sell consistently, and a little bit of men’s and children’s clothes. She wants to have something for everybody who finds her closet. Right now she’s stocking up on shorts for summer and cropped jeans.
How Do You Organize Your Clothes?
K-mart closed a few years ago and Crystal was able to purchase three professional rolling racks to stay organized. She uses those for dresses and jackets and then has some wire racks for all of her jeans. Crystal has 500 dresses and 400 pairs of jeans for sale in her shop, so organization is key!
Do You Have An Example Of A Bad Buy?
Crystal says it’s important to know what your time is worth. If an item doesn’t make much profit or if an item has to be fixed, it’s not worth the time. Spending half an hour working on fixing a sweater with pilling to only make a $10 or $12 profit isn’t something Crystal will do. Unless it’s going to make $50 to $100, it’s not worth it.
What Do You Use To Cross-Post Your Items?
Crystal’s tool of choice for cross-posting items to different platforms is Vendoo. It saves her a lot of time because it cross-posts to the platforms of her choice. All she has to do is get the item listed on Vendoo, and then click the buttons for it to be cross-posted to other platforms.
If you already have a full closet on Poshmark, Vendoo can scrape data off there and load it into Vendoo, and then cross-post to other platforms like Mercari, eBay, or Tradesy.
