Let’s talk about whether it’s ethical to resell medical equipment on eBay. Should medical equipment like wheelchairs, stretchers, braces or other things be something we resell on eBay? We get comments from people who think we should be finding these items and donating them, so we’re going to talk about the service we provide.
Making Medical Equipment Accessible To More People
We found one wheelchair listed on Marketplace for $250 and it had been on there for about six months and it didn’t sell. During that time, somebody else could have purchased it, but instead it sat there. Would you rather it sit there or would you rather it go to someone who actually needs it because we’re willing to ship it?
By selling it on eBay, the wheelchair can actually go to someone who needs it for a fraction of the cost. The healthcare system charges so much for these items and if someone doesn’t have insurance or access to Medicaid, they have to pay out of pocket and they can’t get it half the time.
The lady who bought this wheelchair from us was so excited she found ours. She had it delivered to her house. At the time she had been renting a wheelchair. She was able to buy her own because we gave it to her for a fraction of the cost of a new one.

By reselling medical equipment like this wheelchair, we’re providing a service by taking these items from a local area where nobody wants them, to a national market to hopefully be purchased by someone who really needs them. It’s our way of helping, and we’re not price gouging. We’re not even charging what somebody has to pay full price for these.
Another flip that stands out is the prosthetic leg knee I sold. That was before we had Flea Market Flipper. I bought it for $35 at the flea market, came back, and sold it within 24 hours on eBay for a thousand dollars. We also sold a bunch of medical ambulance stretchers last year on eBay. There is a demand for affordable medical equipment.

Watch eBay Restrictions
eBay does have some restrictions on selling medical equipment. The general rule is that if it requires a prescription, you can’t sell it. We tried to sell an oxygen machine on eBay and they pulled that. Do your research and make sure it’s an item you can sell before you purchase it. And if eBay pulls an item, don’t try to list it. You could get suspended or banned if you try to relist it. It sucks that you can’t sell all medical equipment because a lot of the unsellable items will just end up in the trash.
We’re definitely doing a service. Do we believe it’s unethical? No we do not. We are helping people find affordable options for a fraction of the cost if they purchased these medical equipment items new.
