Should you try eBay Live and add it to your income stream?
We attended eBay Open a few weeks ago and they were hitting really hard on eBay Live, so we wanted to talk about whether this is something you should be adding to what you are already doing on eBay. They had a huge area at the expo hall set up for eBay Live and even had the Backstreet Boys there with a reseller, selling cards.
eBay Live allows buyers to tune in to live shopping experiences that are curated and shared by sellers. The seller is on camera showing the item, hyping it up, and trying to get it sold in a live online auction. It is currently in beta testing and available in limited categories.

Will eBay Live Work With Your Business Model?
We don’t typically do live selling because it doesn’t work for our normal business model. We do low volume, high dollar items. We don’t expect that hundreds of people would be looking for a $2,000 cooktop at the same time, since people are generally looking for a specific model when they go to eBay. If you sell smalls, eBay Live could be a great way to highlight your inventory in a cool way. Some of the categories currently selling include trading cards, comics and games, coins, and fashion.
How We Plan To Try eBay Live
Since eBay Live is a new feature, we want to figure out how we can do it. We are going to try to have our kids jump in and sell stuff on eBay Live. They’re excited about it and we narrowed it to three categories so each of them can try it. Our oldest loves Squishmallows so she’s going to see if she can buy them locally, sell them on eBay Live, and ship them out. Then our other daughter is going to do Disney memorabilia, which is huge in Orlando, Florida where we are based. Our son loves 3D items you can make on 3D printers, so he’s going to get a 3D printer off Marketplace or eBay and he’s going to print items and sell them on eBay Live.

Now, all those categories might not be open yet. We also have to see if we have an invite yet, or if we’ll need to ask around to get one. The biggest category we noticed they were pushing was collectibles, things like trading cards and toys. We’ll have to do some research to see if our kids’ categories will qualify.
How Can You Boost Sales On eBay Live
One difference between eBay Live and regular eBay is that it would be beneficial to have a social media following for eBay Live. eBay wants to know you have experience with live selling or going live on different platforms. If you’re a niche seller with a social media following, this could be an excellent way to use eBay Live by promoting your live sales to your followers.
