Today we’re going to talk about one thing that can help you grow your flipping business.
This past weekend we went on the boat for the Fourth of July holiday. We went on the boat four days in a row and we had a blast with the kids. They’ve been going on the boat for years now, and they don’t always surf, but this time they wanted to try to get on the board.
All three of them tried and two of them ended up standing up and surfing, which was really cool. One of them even threw the rope. One of them was not able to get up and it was actually our child who is the most athletic, flexible, coordinated, and balanced so it was surprising that she didn’t get it. That was because she did it one time, got up to her knees, and then she fell. Instead of getting back on again, she gave up.
Grow With Practice
Our other two kids fell multiple times, and they kept getting up and trying again. Brody only got to his feet one time in the end. Roxy did it a couple of times and they both did it because they kept trying over and over again. They might not have had as many natural abilities going into it as Lexi, but they were able to make the goal happen because they were persistent and they kept trying.
We often think other people are farther along in their business or have more skills than we do. And that could be true, but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn those skills and be successful with time and practice.
Mistakes Help You Grow
The reason successful people are successful is because they’ve done it. They just did the thing. A lot of people will run into an obstacle or run into a dead end and they’ll give up versus just keeping going and getting better. Every time you do make a mistake you learn from that mistake and you’re probably not going to make that same mistake again.
That’s the same lesson for our kids that got up and surfed. They made a mistake. They figured out what it was. For Roxy, she would get her foot on the outside of the board and go to stand up and then she’d start wobbling. She had to learn to keep her foot closer to the center of the board.
We were coaching her through the process and then slowly but surely she did it again and she got her foot in the middle of the board and then she stood all the way up and threw the rope.
If you are willing to continue no matter the outcome then you’re going to grow. It’s possible, you just have to do it. Make those mistakes, get better and better at it so you can get to where you want to be in the business. We know Lexi will get it eventually!
When I was starting out flipping, I made a mistake where I over-promised on an item and said it was in mint condition when it was not. It almost stopped me from selling on eBay, but I tried again. And now I’ve been doing it full-time for years. I learned from my mistake and refined the process to grow. Maybe you put the wrong label on an item or didn’t pay enough for shipping. These things happen and you’ll learn from them. Just keep trying.
