Last week we sold just three items to make $8,590, so let’s dive into what we sold, the eBay fees, the shipping costs, and the profits!
We love sharing our flips because we get to show you that you can make real money in this business without spending a ton. What really matters is what we’re taking home after the fees and costs. Sometimes you see posts from online sellers that say they sold a million dollars of product, but then you find out they spent $950,000, so they only actually brought home $50,000. At the end of the day, you have to make money in this business or there’s no point in doing it. We like to maximize our profits for our efforts.
Item #1 – Breadmaker
We found this item at the thrift store. My daughter helped me pick it out and we even made some bread in it before we sold it, just to make sure it was working properly. This wasn’t a super high profit flip, but we’ve been working to teach our kids this business, so it was rewarding to do this flip with our daughter.
Sold: $50 + $40 for shipping
COGS (cost of goods sold): $10
eBay fees: $12
Shipping fees: $6 (shipped in state)
Total profit: $62
Item # 2 – Basketball Hoop
This was a four-hoop basketball game that gets mounted on poles. We got this for free from a friend at church. Tell people what you do, and they may give you things to resell when they’re clearing out their junk. So many people have stuff that they don’t even like that they’ll give to you because they’re decluttering.
Retail on it was over $1,000 new, so I listed this around $400. This ended up going to Puerto Rico.
Sold: $400 + $100 for shipping
COGS: $0
eBay fees: $63
Shipping fees: $137
Total profit: $300
Item # 3 – Chiller
We bought this item at a local auction. I didn’t know exactly what it was when I bought it. When farms pick vegetables off the vine or off trees, this machine stores them right away. It brings it from room temperature down to below 20 degrees to keep them fresh. People said it might be called a freeze blaster, but we got it for a great deal and made a huge profit on it.
Retail on this item new was over $50,000, so I knew we might be waiting a while for the right buyer; we only sat on it for a couple of months. I had it listed for $9,000 and I took $1,000 off to try to drum up a sale and it worked. They accepted my offer within 48 hours. This did go freight shipping and I had to buy some supplies to build the pallet. We paid 12.7% on the first $2,500 for eBay fees, and then after that we paid 2.35% on the remaining balance.
Sold: $8,000
COGS: $88
eBay fees: $455
Shipping fees: $500
Pallet supplies: $80
Total profit: $6,877
The best part about this was that we only spent $98 to make $7,239 in profit. $98 invested in these three items to make these profits. This is why we love this business!
