Is This Flip Worth The Price

Thank you so much for spending your time with us! We would be so grateful if you could take a minute and leave us a review.

Is this flip worth the price?

This is a new series we’re doing where we dive into a scenario, go through the numbers, and see if it makes sense to purchase this flip.

This is a flip that we used to do quite a bit. We will talk through if you found this item, would it be worth it to buy it and flip it?

Stroller: Is This Flip Worth The Price?

Melissa started helping me sell on eBay back when the kids were born. We had babies and toddlers and that’s when we realized how expensive their stuff was. I could not believe people were spending $1,000-$2,000 for strollers. We’ve always used items from the flea market or thrift stores. We started looking into it and realized there’s money to be made in flipping high end strollers.

Let’s look at a BOB double stroller. We’ve sold multiples of these strollers in the past. They make singles and doubles, but the doubles are the ones that are worth more money.

If you found one of these on the local Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, or flea market, would it be worth it to flip? What price should you pay to make the money you need to make? Think about the time you will have to spend cleaning it, taking pictures, listing it, and shipping it. Can it ship on a pallet or will it go in a box? These are things to think about.

Flip Scenario #1

If you found a BOB double stroller for $60 would it be worth it to sell on eBay? A recent search on eBay active listings shows there is only one new one listed and it’s $1,394, so almost $1,400 for a new BOB stroller. There are two used ones listed and one’s at $275 and the other is at $350, but they do not offer shipping; they are local pickup only. This the same rate they are going for in my local Facebook Marketplace.

I then looked at completed listings for similar BOB double strollers and one that sold had a $500 asking price. They took an offer; we don’t know what the offer was. That one was $100 shipping plus the $500 asking price. If I had a BOB stroller right now, I know there are not many of them on the market and none are willing to be shipped other than the new one for $1,400. I can undercut that by ⅓ to list at $500 and charge $50-$100 for shipping. It will absolutely go in a box if you take the wheels off and do a couple of things to get it folded. That’s a reasonable rate for shipping depending how far it’s going.

If you were to buy it on Amazon, the same stroller would be between $900-$1,400 new for retail. I’m pretty confident I could sell it for $500 plus $50 to ship it. Shipping is estimated at $100, eBay fees would be roughly $71 (that’s 13%), cost of goods was $60, which means we’d make $319 profit.

It would probably take about 3 hours to clean, list and ship the item. So you’re roughly over $100 an hour to be able to buy a BOB double stroller and sell it on eBay.

Is this flip worth it? Totally!

Flip Scenario #2

If we bought it at $60, but sell it for $100 less at $400 plus $50 ship, we can estimate $58 eBay fees and your profit comes to $232. That comes to about $77 per hour. So you have to roughly think about whether it’s worth your time.

Remember, your money is made in your buy, but the profit has to be there in the end.

For most people, $100 an hour is pretty good and you’re working on your own time. That’s why we like this business. Your hourly rate could also improve as you get faster at listing and packaging items up too. You have to get some practice and then you get into a groove.

$3,500 Thrift Store Find

Robert Stephenson

I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here my whole life. I first got into buying and selling items when I was 16 years old, and have been hooked ever since. It has mostly been a hobby that makes some extra cash, but sometimes it serves as my main income as well. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I find too many fun toys for my family (or myself), and just love the whole process.
