Debunking “This Item Won’t Sell In My Area”

Thank you so much for spending your time with us! We would be so grateful if you could take a minute and leave us a review.

Let’s debunk a comment we hear a lot. We often hear people say “This item will never sell in my area because I live in a rural area.” That is the whole purpose of our business model, which is selling on eBay.

Debunking "This Item Won't Sell In My Area"

It doesn’t matter where you live and we’re going to dive into why. It only matters where the buyer lives and if you can get that item to them. With our business model, we are buying items in a local market and putting them on eBay to sell. This means the items get shipped nationwide or to the global market. If you think an item won’t sell in your local area, you might be right, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sell it.

We are able to make the huge flips we make because we sell items to a nationwide or global market, which means we make good money and get stuff sold quickly. To do this, you should source for items from thrift stores or yard sales for cheap, and then list the items on eBay.

A lot of the items that we buy in the local market will start out at $2,000 and as it doesn’t sell, the local seller just wants to get rid of it. They keep dropping the price until eventually they sell it for $250. That’s why we are able to buy items for so cheap locally. The buyer just wants it gone but doesn’t want to deal with shipping. We will take that item and put it on eBay to make sure it’s seen outside of the local market.

We got into this because of a table set I bought for $350. My goal was to double my investment, but I couldn’t get it to sell on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. Well, I listed it on eBay and it sold for $2,250 plus $500 shipping. I decided to figure out how to ship it so I could make that kind of profit.

Furniture is a good one to find locally and ship out to a larger market. You can also do the same thing with collectibles. There may not be a market locally for a specific collectible, but if you get it on eBay, it could find that niche buyer willing to pay good money.

Sourcing In Local Markets

People often say they can’t find items in their local market. We can also debunk that myth.

Sourcing in local markets can be challenging, but we’ve found amazing deals in small towns on our road trips. The couple of years we did the road trips, we averaged about $20,000 in profit from the items we found. There is stuff out there everywhere. And if you need to travel to go sourcing, make a day out of it. You might have a larger town 45 minutes away where you could hit multiple thrift stores and sales. Try to have some Marketplace meetups scheduled or a plan for what you’re picking up to make it worth it. Check the local apps beforehand so you know what’s available.

If you have been thinking about getting started on eBay, this is your call to action to do it. It’s worth it. It can be scary, but just open your account and get started!

I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here my whole life. I first got into buying and selling items when I was 16 years old, and have been hooked ever since. It has mostly been a hobby that makes some extra cash, but sometimes it serves as my main income as well. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I find too many fun toys for my family (or myself), and just love the whole process.
