You do not need any money to get started in the reselling business. We are going to share five ways that you can get started reselling for free. Then you can sell those free items, and make some money! We don’t like spending much on our items. We typically try to 10X our profit, and free items are a great way to do that.
Free Way To Find Items #1
Okay, this one is not exactly free because you probably paid for it at some point unless it was a gift and that is reselling items you already have that you don’t use. Look inside your attic, closet, or pantry for those items that you might have not used in a year or two years. Those are items that you can sell to make money now. Free Way To Find Items #2
Look around someone else’s house and by this we mean ask your friends. Ask them if they have anything they don’t want anymore that you could resell. This is a great place to start because other people have stuff they don’t want. One of our members cleaned houses at one point and people would give her the stuff that they didn’t want before they donated it. If people are already planning to donate something, they might prefer for you to have the profit instead of the thrift store.
Free Way To Find Items #3
Check the free section on some of the apps. Look at OfferUp, Craigslist, and Facebook Marketplace. Most of them are built in with a free category where people can actually throw stuff in there, and you can get rid of stuff for free. People will come pick it up. One of the awesome items I got in the past was an ice cream machine that I found on OfferUp. We went and got it for free, and sold it for $8,500. There are items out there that you can totally get for free. People always ask why others are listing items for free, and you don’t know people’s situations. Sometimes they just need it gone and don’t want to deal with it.
Free Way To Find Items #4
Check out curbside finds. This was one of our favorites, and I have found tens of thousands of dollars on the side of the road, not even looking for it. We found items on our normal routine. For years, Melissa and I walked from our house to our downtown and then on a trail. We walked through neighborhoods and I found so many items on the curb. I would see it on my walk, go get our truck, and come back and pick it up.
One time there was a power wheelchair somebody pushed out on the side of the road. That one was actually wild because I was like, “Why is somebody throwing this away?” And I think the batteries went bad on it. They had it out on the side of the road for somebody to take on trash day. I actually went to the door and said, “Hey, are you guys throwing this away?” They said yes. I said, “Can I push it back up to your garage, and go grab my truck, and I’ll come back and grab it?” They were a little hesitant at first because they’re like, “Are you really gonna come back?” I said yes, grabbed my truck, and came back. There are thousands and thousands of dollars found for free that people have just put out on the side of the road and a lot of the items still have life left in them.
Free Way To Find Items #5
Make a post on Facebook Marketplace or in the apps and ask for items. You would be surprised how many items you get. I used to do this a lot. A while ago, I sold hot tubs. I created a sign that said if people didn’t want their hot tub, they could call me and I’d haul it away. And I was able to do that and resell them. I advertised in the classified section of the newspaper back then too. I also did this with jet skis and that’s how I got a mint condition jet ski that I used for a long time before selling.
We’ve had stories on all five of these things, and these have made us tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is not a theory. This is something that actually works. You can totally do this right now, today. Go out and find these free items and be able to turn them into cash.
Bonus Free Way To Find Items
Check apartment complexes at the end of the month or at the end of the academic year if you live near a college. You can sometimes find nice furniture or nice things that people are throwing away.
