We recently did something that was super scary for us and we’re going to get into the nitty gritty of how we accomplished it and the steps we took to overcome one of our biggest fears.
You might have fear about selling on eBay, listing your first freight item, or overcoming analysis paralysis. If you have fear with your reselling business or otherwise, hopefully this advice can help you get past them.
Melissa and I believe if you’re not stepping out of your comfort zone, you’re not growing. And that was one of the biggest reasons why we decided to do this thing we’re going to talk about. We were invited to do public speaking about flipping at a conference. It was engineered more toward kids, but families were in attendance. We talk in workshops and podcasts all the time, but talking in front of a crowd of 500 people is a big deal. It’s scary!
Set A Date For Your Goals
We said yes, and then we started preparing. We had a deadline, which made it easier for us to put an action plan in place.
If you are struggling right now to do something, let’s set a date on that. You have consequences on that date. What are you going to do if you don’t get this freight item listed in two weeks? Maybe you write a check to charity.
Some people will challenge themselves to something and then say if they fail their challenge they have to donate to a political party they don’t like or something like that. Setting real consequences can provide incentive to actually do the thing.
You Just Have To Do It
We spoke two years ago, which was terrifying, but this time we had a little more confidence because we’d done it. The first step we took to prepare was to take a course on public speaking. We found someone who taught us how to get better at presentations and we enrolled, and we had to do a different speech each week in front of people via Zoom. We rehearsed for probably 20 hours. Do it scared. That doesn’t mean don’t prepare as best as you can, but don’t pass up opportunities because you’re scared.
We delivered a great presentation. We had numbers and numbers of people come up to us afterwards and say, “That was an amazing presentation. Thank you so much.”
We want to grow because if you’re not progressing, you’re regressing. We’re always trying to grow in these aspects of our lives because we always want to get better. Challenge yourself to grow this week!
