If you want to start a reselling business, you need to determine where to sell your items online. Here are eight online marketplaces to sell stuff online to build your flipping business. Whether you’re sourcing or decluttering your home, you’ll be able to list your products on these platforms to get leads to buyers. Here are eight online marketplaces to consider.
Sell On eBay
eBay is our bread and butter for reselling. With over 159 million registered users, eBay provides the opportunity to get your item in front of millions of buyers worldwide. It’s easy to get set up with an eBay account, and there are so many different categories you can sell on eBay. While eBay does have a local meetup option, shipping is more common, so you will need to learn how to list and ship items. We typically sell high-profit items, which are often larger items like appliances. The great news is that you can also ship large items on eBay with freight shipping. Learning how to use freight shipping takes some time, but once you do, you can increase your profits with less time invested. You can also sell clothes, collectibles, tools, household goods, and many other products on eBay.
Sell On Poshmark
Poshmark is a clothing app, though it’s expanded to allow sellers to sell home goods. People can sell used or new clothing for women, men, and children. There are over 80 million community members on Poshmark across the United States, Canada, and Australia. If you’re looking to clean out your closet or clothing is your niche, Poshmark is the place to sell.
Sell On Mercari
Mercari is an online platform that focuses on helping people declutter and discover. People can sell used or new items on the platform in various categories, including clothing, toys, home goods, and more. With millions of users across the U.S., the app allows a seller to offer at-home pickups or shipping, including same-day delivery.
Sell On Craigslist
Craigslist is a great app for reselling stuff locally. While you will likely only use it to set up local sales, you’ll do all your listing online. You will need a description and good pictures, but the buyer will get to inspect the item when you schedule the meetup in person. It’s the modern-day classified ad. You can use it to resell furniture, cars, antiques, and dozens of other items.
Sell On Facebook Marketplace
There are a couple of ways to sell on Facebook Marketplace. You can create your listing and allow it to be purchased locally, where you set up a meeting to make the sale, or you can add shipping and let the sale be handled through Facebook Marketplace. When we’ve used Facebook Marketplace, it’s been primarily for local pickup of things like furniture or baby gear. With the local pickup, you’ll have to coordinate a time to sell the item in person with your buyer. If you do shipping, you will sell the item through Facebook, using the platform for the entire transaction. If you sell with shipping, you will have to pay fees to Facebook. With the local listing option, there are no fees because the transaction is completed offline.
Another option for Facebook (not Marketplace) is to build your brand and create a Facebook page or group where you can host live sales. This is where you will advertise for a “live event” and then go live and show off all the items you’re selling. You’ll hold up the product, describe its condition, size, model, etc., and will assign a number to it. Then watchers can comment “sold” to claim the item, and you will invoice them after the live event is over. This is often used for clothing and vintage items but could also be used for collectibles or other unique niches.
Sell On Depop
Depop started in 2011 and has grown to over 26 million active users. The platform allows people to buy and sell clothing, beauty products, and accessories. Items are usually secondhand. It is sometimes called the reseller app for Gen Z because it has built a loyal customer base of 18- to 26-olds.
Sell On Amazon
If you’re interested in selling on Amazon, there are a couple of different options you can choose from. You can get into Fulfillment By Amazon (FBA), where you source products elsewhere for a lower price and then ship them to Amazon to be resold. Another option is creating digital products that can be purchased on Amazon and printed on demand. Some sellers create a brand and product lines by working with a manufacturer and then use Amazon to sell and distribute their lines. People make money differently on Amazon, so research which method might be best for you.
Sell On Etsy
Etsy isn’t just a platform for crafts anymore. If you resell vintage clothing or collectibles, you might want to be on Etsy. Etsy is one of many places to sell vintage goods worldwide. In 2021, approximately 96 million active buyers purchased products through Etsy. People now go to the platform to find clothing, shoes, jewelry, home goods, collectibles, and more.
There are many different options for resellers to list their items online. How do you know what’s right for your reselling business? Try them out and see which one you like best.
