What’s holding you back from starting today? It could be about your flipping business or it could be about something else you’ve been wanting to do that you just haven’t done yet. Let’s talk about how we can overcome those obstacles to get started achieving your goals today.
Last week, we attended a conference, which is what spurred the idea for this topic. We met some really great people and had engaging conversations, but we were surprised there were so many with ideas for a business that they just hadn’t started yet. We met somebody who has been thinking about doing something for three years and hasn’t started yet. Intentions are great, but why are so many of them not just starting?
What Holds You Back From Flipping?
This relates to flipping too. We meet so many people who want to start their flipping business or have been learning and listening for a while, but haven’t actually taken that step forward.
What is stopping you right now? We want to get you started. This is the most amazing business ever, being able to find stuff on your own time that might be worth thousands of dollars.
We love flipping and I have almost three decades of doing it. For the last 10 years we’ve been focused on high-profit flips and we’ve found these items all around the country.
We want you to think what is stopping me right now? Why haven’t I started or why haven’t I scaled?
Overcoming Analysis Paralysis
One of the biggest obstacles we hear about is analysis paralysis. It’s having to know all of the things or feeling like you need to be prepared for what you might tackle. It’s great to be prepared, but if it’s stopping you from starting, that’s a problem. The best way to learn is by doing it. You can totally list one $5 or $10 item on eBay. It won’t break the bank and it won’t hurt you if it does go south. But what if it goes well? What if you learn the process? What if you learn how to do good pictures and how to write good listings?
Once you get that first item sold then maybe you find a $15-$30 item and step it up. You need to learn and go through the eBay process when the stakes are low. Practice and get started with items that are low value before you start selling items worth a lot of money.
Our Mistake From The Early Years
One of our biggest mistakes happened years ago with a Sleep Number bed. We didn’t get insurance on it because it’s a mattress and it’s all padding. We thought nothing could happen to it. It cannot physically break. It was a $500-$600 package. Insurance probably would’ve been about $10. Why did we need it? Well, one of the boxes got lost in shipping and then instead of making $500-$600, we only got $100 back because that was all standard shipping insurance covered. We issued the refund to the buyer, but ever since then we always add extra insurance for items valued over $100. That was an expensive mistake, but we learned from it.
We’ve gotten better and know how to navigate those situations just by going through those mistakes.
Another common mistake in reselling that we’ve heard of is if you have two packages going out at the same time, you might accidentally swap the labels and send them to the wrong person. If you do that one time, you probably won’t do that again.
I want to challenge you to get started. If you’ve been in our freight group, get your first freight item listed. If you’re new to reselling, get your first item listed on eBay. You cannot grow if you do not try.
