How We Made $12,220 in One Month Of Flipping Flea Market Items

flea market flipping

We totaled over $15,000 in eBay sales for the month of June, 2017 with a profit of $12,220! We were really excited about that because for one, it’s an awesome month, and two, because we definitely needed it after the prior month’s $1,774 profit month. We can say this month helped us catch up and even things out.

We decided to start posting our income reports here from Flea Market Flipper for several reasons. The first one is to keep ourselves accountable. I have been doing this flipping thing for over 20 years now, and I have never kept track of what I’ve made. It was always a hobby – but one that came in handy when finances were tight. Once we decided to take this more serious we started keeping better records. It has helped us tremendously keep track of what is going in and out each month.

Another reason isΒ to provide encouragement to people who want to do this as a part time or full time income. It is pretty popular in the blogging world for bloggers to post their income reports, and we always found it encouraging to read those. They help us keep going when sometimes we would rather be doing other things.

Lastly, but most importantly is to provide value and information to our readers, followers and Flipper University Students. We have students and readers who are doing flea market flipping (or thrift store and yard sale flipping) as a side hustle or main hustle and we want to provide information to help them become successful.

Now onto the flips for this month! We had 21 total eBay transactions for the month which totaled $15,260 in sales and a $12,220 profit for Flea Market Flipper.

One fun sale this month was a commercial splash pad pool pump. Part of me wanted to keep it and make a splash pad for my kids, but better minds prevailed and I decided to sell it. Sold for $1,500 (bought it for $340).flea market flipper

Another great sale was this cruise speaker that sold for $5oo. We bought it at an auction for $50. I asked our friends on our Facebook page if they could figure out what it was. There were a lot of fun guesses because it is an interesting looking item.

One item that I sold multiples of was this tankless water heater. 5 of them sold in two days time. I paid $45 each, and sold them for $500-$600 each.

This prosthetic foot had a great ROI with a very minimal investment. I paid $2.50 for it, and was able to sell it on eBay for $200. This flip sparked a little discussion on Facebook because one reader thought I was taking advantage of the person who needed it by selling it. Β I responded that if I had not bought it from the flea market, most likely it would still be sitting in a pile of junk, and the buyer would have never been able to use it at all. But instead, they got it for a fraction of the new cost, so it really worked out for all parties. I decided to write up a whole response to it in thisΒ blog post: Does Buying and Reselling Take Advantage of People?Β

We also sold this Barbie Power Wheels car. We bought it for our kids for Christmas for $20, and then sold it on eBay for $140. Don’t worry, they weren’t super mad at us for selling their car. They had another one and it made sense to get rid of it. That is the fun part about being a flipper’s kid. You get to play with cool toys before they are sold. πŸ˜‰

I sold two of these golf cart chargers this month. They were good flea market finds. I bought them both for $25, sold one for $125 and one for $200.

The biggest flip of the month was an autoclave that I bought from a vendor at the flea market. I bough it for $100 and sold it for $5,500! I knew it was worth a lot when I bought it and only sat on it for a little over a month before it sold.Β flea market flipper

I am happy with this month’s totals. It was a lot to ship, but of course I would prefer to ship out 21 items for a $12,o00 plus profit, then just a few items to ship. The larger items usually intimidate people for shipping, but it doesn’t have to be scary.

I honestly shied away from it for a long time, but when I figured out how to ship the larger items, I drastically increased my profits. I decided to write an e-book recently on how to ship larger items, you can check that out HERE if it’s something that interests you.

If jumping into flipping is something that interests you even more, check out our Flea MarketΒ Flipper University e-course. We have to close this post with being very thankful to God for allowing us to do this for a living. We love that it gives us more time and flexibility for a young family. To me there is nothing greater than spending time and having fun with the people you love.

I grew up in Central Florida and have lived here my whole life. I first got into buying and selling items when I was 16 years old, and have been hooked ever since. It has mostly been a hobby that makes some extra cash, but sometimes it serves as my main income as well. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I find too many fun toys for my family (or myself), and just love the whole process.

  1. These figures sound grossly inflated. Here in ny you will never under any circumstances find a 5 k dollar product for 100 bucks or a 200 dollar product for 2 bucks. Seems to much like a fairy tale these stories. If people could find deals like this they all be rich from these side hustles.

    1. You don’t have to believe the numbers if you don’t want to. But that doesn’t make them less true. People undervalue stuff all the time. They guy with the prosthetic foot for $2.50 wanted to throw it in the trash. He looked disgusted by it. He probably bought a storage unit with it or a bin at a local auction. To him it wasn’t worth anything, but to someone who needed it and found it on eBay it was worth way more than $200. I am at a thrift store, flea market, or auction every single week so we are bound to find some thing that people don’t value. And that flea market vendor could have easily posted the foot on eBay himself if he had wanted to – but he just chooses to sell his items at the flea market.

  2. Hi I noticed that a lot of what you buy is mechanical. How do you know they work the way they are supposed to?

    1. Hi Kim!

I am Youtube taught… haha. I drift toward that stuff because I enjoy it, but I sometimes don’t know if it works or not. Some things I have no way of testing either. I post those things for parts or not working. And you would be surprised at how many people will still want to buy it, knowing that it needs to be fixed.

  3. I’m curious what is a autoclave? Wow these things seem to sell pretty well.I am really interested in the stamps you sold I have a massive collection I really need to sell but couldn’t really figure out how to sell them. Request for a post on pics of the stamps and what you sold them for if that could be possible I would be very interested.

    1. Hey Sam! I am not a tax professional, so I can’t give any legal advice. We do claim our profits on our taxes, but also any expenses that we use in our flipping business. (Gas to pick up items, item expenses, storage rent, etc).

    1. I love the unusual items. πŸ™‚ Because some of my items are more unique, they take the right person to find them, so I do sit on them longer. I don’t mind sitting on them for a little while because I have a garage and storage unit dedicated to flipping.
